The Bible
The standard Western Bible contains 66 books. The Ethiopian Orthodox Bible contains 88 — including 22 texts that were part of early Christianity but removed by church councils in the 4th century. This is the complete canon, translated into English.
The Book of Enoch, Jubilees, the Ascension of Isaiah, 1 Esdras, 2 Esdras, Tobit, Judith, Sirach, Wisdom of Solomon, Baruch, the Letter of Jeremiah, and several others — 22 additional books in total.
The Council of Laodicea (363 AD) and the Council of Carthage (397 AD) voted to restrict the canon. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church — the oldest Christian institution in Africa — never accepted those removals and kept all 88 books.
English. The text is translated from the original Ge'ez, the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
