Ethiopia became a Christian kingdom in the 4th century — one of the very first nations in the world to do so.

Over the centuries, the Western Bible grew shorter. Books like Enoch and Jubilees were never included, and in the 1500s Protestant Bibles removed even more. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church kept them all — copied by hand, century after century, in monasteries and churches carved from rock.

Today it remains the largest biblical canon in Christianity. Eighty-eight books, preserved for more than fifteen centuries.
